Drawstring hems make cargo pants adaptable, but “about the same” on both legs can produce visibly different gathers. A hem map records each side independently so a preferred setting can be restored.
Set the silhouette on the shoes you will wear
Put on the pants and intended footwear. Adjust one hem at a time while standing on a level surface. Walk ten steps, sit, and stand again before deciding; the gather can shift once the fabric moves.
Record four points
| Side | Exposed cord | Hem position |
|---|---|---|
| Left | ____ cm | Above / at / below ankle |
| Right | ____ cm | Above / at / below ankle |
Also photograph each adjuster close enough to show where the cord exits. Do not assume matching cord lengths will create matching hems: body stance and construction can make the preferred values different.
A quick reset after laundry
First return each side to its recorded cord length. Put the pants on, walk briefly, and compare the hem heights in a mirror. Change only one variable at a time. If the left side sits low, shorten the left cord in a small increment rather than tightening both.
Record whether the measurement was taken with the cord relaxed or under light tension. Otherwise the same number can produce a different gather on the next attempt. A close-up photo beside a ruler can clarify the starting point without relying on memory.
Keep cords secured as the garment instructions require, especially before washing. The Flap Pocket Drawstring Hem Cargo Pants page gives the current product context; the physical pair and its care label govern the final setting.
